Building Baasplus: The Banking-as-a-Service Platform Behind IperMoney

Baasplus is a complete digital-banking platform: everything a brand needs to launch a modern, regulated banking product — accounts and IBANs, payments, card issuing, digital onboarding, a back-office and analytics — without stitching together a dozen separate vendors. This article walks through how we built it and why one team can deliver and run something at this scale.

One Platform, Many Surfaces

Customers get a native banking app built from a single cross-platform codebase that ships to web, iOS and Android at once. Behind it, the same platform powers an operations and compliance back-office for the team running the service, and an investor and analytics dashboard for the business. Building each capability once and exposing it across these surfaces is how a lean team keeps everything consistent and correct.

A Google Cloud-Native Backend

We built Baasplus as a cloud-native platform on Google Cloud (GCP) infrastructure from day one, running in a European region to keep data close to customers. A managed, serverless-leaning approach lets the team focus on the banking product instead of operating servers. The core building blocks are:

• Accounts & payments: Multi-currency business accounts with dedicated IBANs, instant SEPA and cross-border transfers, and per-transaction, daily and monthly limits.
• Card issuing: Virtual and physical payment cards with spending controls and full lifecycle management — activate, freeze or replace in-app.
• Digital onboarding: Fully digital identity and business verification (KYC / KYB), including document capture, liveness and beneficial-owner checks.
• Managed, consistent data: A managed, strongly-consistent database on Google Cloud (GCP) infrastructure keeps accounts, transactions and balances correct at any scale.
• Managed authentication: Identity, sign-in and session security run on managed authentication, with multi-factor and device-level biometric or PIN protection.

Built for a Regulated Service

Moving money and holding accounts raises the bar. Baasplus is engineered to support a regulated, PSD2-aligned electronic-money service — as operated by IperMoney under European e-money authorization — with strong authentication, encrypted secrets and data, granular access control, and monitored, audited operations. Security and compliance are foundations of the architecture, not features bolted on at the end.
