From IT consultancy to software house

HKMSP is a Hong Kong software house. We build and run production web and mobile applications in-house — and because our roots are in IT strategy, cloud and security, we also advise on and operate the environments our software lives in.

For over twenty years we secured, architected and ran mission-critical systems for banking and enterprise clients. That consulting foundation is exactly what we now bring to building software: correctness, resilience and security are not afterthoughts, they are where we start.

Our own product, WorthMap, is proof of that shift — a cross-platform personal-finance platform we designed, engineered and operate end to end on Google Cloud. The same engineering we applied to our product is the engineering we bring to every client.

We became a Software House

HKMSP now designs, builds and operates its own production software in-house — launching WorthMap, our cloud-native product on Google Cloud — while continuing to deliver the consulting our clients rely on.

Our story

How a consultancy became a software house

HKMSP started life on the consulting side of technology. For more than 25 years we advised, secured and ran mission-critical IT, cloud and cybersecurity systems for banking and enterprise clients — the kind of environments where downtime, data loss and a missed control carry real consequences. That work taught us how production systems actually behave under pressure, and where good intentions on a whiteboard quietly fall apart in the real world.

Over time we stopped stopping at the recommendation. Instead of handing a target architecture to someone else to build, we started building it ourselves — designing, engineering and shipping production software with the same rigour we had spent two decades applying to security and operations. Our own product, WorthMap, is the clearest proof of that pivot: a cross-platform personal-finance platform we designed, built and now operate end to end on Google Cloud, delivered to web, iOS and Android from a single codebase.

Today HKMSP is a Hong Kong software house that does all three things at once — advise, build and operate. The consulting foundation shapes how we design; the engineering lets us ship it in-house; and the operational discipline means we stay on to run it. It is one continuous responsibility rather than a series of hand-offs, and it is exactly the model we bring to every client engagement.

A pure consultancy delivers a strategy deck, a target architecture and a set of recommendations — then leaves the build to someone else. The gap between the slide and the shipped system is where most projects lose momentum.

Dev agencies build, then hand off

A development agency will write the code, but once the project ships they move on. You inherit an unfamiliar system to run, secure and keep alive — often without the people who designed it.

A few things prospective clients ask most often about how we work.

Are you a consultancy or a software house?

Both, and that is deliberate. HKMSP began as an IT, cloud and cybersecurity consultancy and has grown into a Hong Kong software house that designs, builds and operates production software. We keep the advisory judgement from our consulting roots and pair it with the engineering to actually ship and run what we recommend.

Do you only build, or do you also run what you build?

We run it. We are not a hand-off shop — we architect the platform, engineer it, deploy it on cloud-native infrastructure and stay on to operate it. Owning the full lifecycle is the whole point: the people who designed your system are the ones keeping it running.

Where are you based and who do you work with?

We are HK Managed Services Provider Limited, based in Hong Kong and serving clients globally. Our work spans fintech and digital banking, managed IT services and cybersecurity and compliance, with clients including First Digital Trade, Gumtree and Rutledge Consulting.

What cloud do you build on?

We build cloud-native on Google Cloud, favouring managed and serverless-leaning architecture so a small, senior team can deliver globally-available, scalable systems without a heavy operations burden. It is the same platform we use to run our own product, WorthMap.

Can you build for web and mobile from one project?

Yes. We ship cross-platform software — web, iOS and Android — from a single codebase, which keeps behaviour consistent and reduces the cost of maintaining three separate apps. WorthMap, our own product, is delivered exactly this way.

Can you take over an existing system?

Often, yes. Our consulting background means we are comfortable stepping into an existing environment, understanding how it is built and secured, and taking on its architecture, engineering and operations.
